Tired of the Solitude
I need a job. I really do. I need some social interaction. I am in the house WAY too much. When I scour the internet for jobs to apply to this week, I'm going way beyond the Accounting positions. I am now making myself available to take out trash and clean toilets. Anything to get back to a normal routine. I am desperate. I walked 6 miles at the park today. I did 2 this morning, and went back and did 4 more this evening. My one goal this week is to be able to drag myself out of the house 2x a day, every day this week, and walk 6 miles each day. We'll see if I make it. Onward.

Sunshine On a Rainy Day
I lost 1.2 lbs. this week....I am down to 242.8. Woo Hoo! I'll take it! Any loss is a good loss and one to be proud of!
It's raining out so I just watched the news. They said it's going to be raining in the entire Northeast all weekend. Great. Sounds like all of my stuff is getting soaked tomorrow morning in the move. Oh who cares! I just want it done and over with. Thankfully, I've already moved over 90% of the boxes on my own...the movers are taking all the heavy furniture and maybe 8-10 more boxes. So I won't have a bunch of wet cardboard boxes to deal with. That's a plus! :)
As you know, my goal for each month is to lose 10 lbs. That puts me needing to lose 3.4 lbs next week to wrap up this month. I'm going to push myself hard to get it done....which means 1500 calories a day and a good walk on the treadmill each day. If I fall short, that's okay.....at least I know I'm still moving in the right direction. I like giving myself goals to keep myself motivated, even if I do set them a little high. The important thing is that I'm slowly but surely experiencing the mental changes that will help me reach and SUSTAIN a healthy weight for the rest of my life.
I'm off to do some last minute packing, laundry and cleaning. I've just about got it all done. It's going to be a great day! I'll try to do a post tonight to let you know how my day went before I pack up my laptop. If not, I'll definitely drop in tmrw night and update you. If it's raining where you are, then I hope you find a little sunshine in your day, too. :)

A Little Tweak This Week
First of all, a great big THANK YOU to my bestest friend for guest posting for me last night. She did an excellent job and I'm quite sure I'll be asking for her services again in the future. :)
Now...here's the deal. I wrote last week that I was definitely, without a doubt, going to have a loss this week. I wrote about my "scale confidence" because I know what it takes to get the weight off. First, the decision...the absolute hardest part. That's been done. Secondly, the old tried and true philosophy of "eat less, move more"...and that's EXACTLY what I've done all week.
So...I hop on the scale yesterday morning to see what kind of glorious loss I'm working towards for Friday's weigh-in and guess what I see? I GAINED A POUND since last Friday. WHAT THE HECK??? My language was actually a little stronger than that, but I'll spare you the four-letter words.
Time to analyze. Have I eaten within my calorie limit since Friday? Absolutely, every single day. Have I done at least 20 mins of cardio every single day? Definitely, yes indeedy. Have I had any binges? Nope. Have I cheated at all on the calories? Nope. Am I lying to myself? No ma'am....absolutely not. Everything is above board and every calorie has been tracked and reported. Am I positive? Is it possible I've been lax at all? Hmmmmm......
Suddenly little mishaps started creeping back into my memory. First off, I keep a dry measuring cup, a liquid measuring cup, a set of measuring spoons, and a food scale on my kitchen counter at all times. I use them every day. Well....ALMOST all of them. There is one thing I haven't been using lately and that's the measuring spoons. I use sugar-free creamer in my coffee and it's 15 calories for 1 tbsp. I usually have 2 cups of coffee when I drink it, so that's 30 calories.
I got tired of the tediousness of measuring out little bits of creamer, so I stopped. I got irritated and I got lazy. I'm thinking I may have thrown an extra 15-30 calories here and there w/o realizing....and those things add up so fast. If I have 2 c. in the morning w/ breakfast, and 2 c. at night when I sit down to do my post...I might be intaking a good bit more calories just in stupid creamer than I was tracking on my nutrition website. So, in light of this error, I started using the measuring spoons again today.
Next in line....potato chips. No, I have not eaten half a bag of chips and not logged it. I DO do my best to be honest about my calories. I want the weight to come off, and as soon as possible, so no sense in purposely not writing something down. Just because you didn't log it, doesn't mean you didn't eat it. I saw something in Amy's post tonight at "Not So Secret Life..." that made me chuckle. Her sister is her personal trainer and she's training Amy to write down every morsel of food. She said, "If you bite it...you write it." I totally agree. However, I did remember that 2 different times yesterday I wanted to snack and I grabbed Dwayne's potato chips and had 2 chips each time....knowing not to eat a whole handful because that would just be stupid. Besides, I'm not a big chip person to start with. Definitely not a trigger food for me. I went back and read the calories on the bag tonight. 7 chips is 70 calories....so the 4 chips I ate and forgot to log was 40 calories!! Doh!
I've also done this with sesame crackers. Again, 7 crackers is 70 calories. Sometimes I'll pop 2 in my mouth when it's too late at night to eat much, and I usually don't have enough calories left anyway. It's a not a huge amount...20 calories...but add that to the chips and the creamer and I'm probably over 100 calories in a day w/o even realizing it. And that's EVERY day in some form or fashion. I've gotten a little soft on the calories apparently and I stopped it today.
Also, this Friday will be the last week for my 2 month/8 week weigh-in and last chance to hit my 10 lb. goal for the month. I've lost 8 lbs....gotta' have 2 more. Of course, I lost 12 last month, so if I don't get the other 2 gone this week, it's still 20 lbs lost in 2 months when you average it out, so technically, I guess the goal is still met. However, that's not how I want to think of it. I want those other 2 lbs gone THIS MONTH. So I decided to tweak things a little bit for today, Wed and Thur to see if it will produce a loss this Friday.
I've cut my calories down to 1400, which is still WELL within the range of calories my nutrition website gives me. They give me a range of 1200-1550. I'm hoping getting more dilligent with counting, and shaving off a few will give me a little boost. Also, I got on the treadmill and did 2 miles again in 30 mins...WOO HOO!! And then I decided this evening to go back down and do 2 MORE MILES/30 mins....for a grand total of 4 MILES today...GO SKINNY TAMMY!!
I'm hoping with this little tweak in my week (I love rhyming phrases :)) that I will see a loss on Friday...one that I can be proud of.
I've picked up some new followers this week....WELCOME!!! I also found some new totally awesome blogs this week...some of them newbies and to me that is just incredibly exciting....I couldn't help myself...I ran over to their blogs with the glorious news that THEY CAN DO IT!!!! I want everyone to know that this is the LAST time they ever have to lose weight. This is it. The grand finale...and the new beginning for them in so many other ways. Every time I read where someone says they're just not sure if they've got it in them to go another round...to try and lose the weight AGAIN...if they're really able to make the change for the better and make it stick this time.....oh my goodness. I start typing so fast there's smoke coming off my keyboard! I know I've only been in it for 7 weeks, but oh my the mental changes I'm making...the 72 lbs or so I've still got to lose doesn't intimidate me at all...not one tiny bit. I run over to their blogs and tell them YES, YOU CAN DO IT!! WITHOUT A DOUBT!! YOU KNOW YOU'VE GOT IT IN YOU OR YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE BLOGGING ABOUT IT. WE'LL DO IT TOGETHER!! I'M MENTIONING YOU IN MY BLOG!! LET'S ALL BEAT THIS THING TOGETHER!! LET'S SLAY OBESITY ONCE AND FOR ALL!! ONWARD, SOLDIERS!!
Yes, I know I'm a bit of a dork, lol, but when you finally get the mindset that I've got...the one where you know in your heart of hearts that you've finally got a grip....that you've found that intoxicating power to say "NO" to food...that yes, you really are worth it, when all these fat years you thought you weren't....you just can't help but reach out and grab someone's hand and pull them into the Happy Boat with you. Changing your life is hard....it's a hard, hard road...a lot of days are rough...and some may be stronger than others...or have been in the groove longer. I know on my weak days I go running to the blogs on my blogroll for inspiration, and I always, always find it. Undoubtedly, every time, someone says just what I need to hear....and it strengthens my resolve. It lifts me up when I'm too tired to pick myself up. We're all in this battle together. No one is alone.
This brings me to my quote for the day. I'm sure that by now most of you know about Jen from "Prior Fat Girl" and the untimely and tragic passing of her mom a few days ago. Boy has it had me torn up. I've cried every day since it's happened and prayed fervently that some peace will come to their family quickly. I had never read her blog until I saw a link on someone else's expressing their condolences....I read it on several blogs, actually. I pulled it up tonight and one of Jen's friends wrote a tribute to her mother, Kim. She put a quote in there that Kim had posted as a comment on one of her daughter Jen's posts. This woman and I could have been friends. I could feel her desire to help others....and it mirrors me completely. We have the same heart. :) I lifted it from the post so I could share it with you all tonight.

Pushing Harder
Today has been really productive. I got a lot done and it feels good. I got 20 boxes packed to move over to the new house tomorrow morning. I also did some household chores and got all my laundry done. I got on the treadmill this morning and finally pushed myself to do more than the usual 20 mins. I walked 34 mins. today!! That may not sound like a big deal to some people, but it is HUGE to me. I am so challenged in the exercise department, lol. I really want to get better at it. Where's Jillian Michaels when you need her?
I want to say thank you to the new followers on my blog, and the people that have been commenting. It's so awesome to have this circle of people around me, cheering me on to my goal. A special thanks to Jack Sh*t for the comment he left on my last post. I love it when he comments...he always makes me laugh out loud and that is so needed. I should stop taking things so seriously and make light of things more often. It makes the world a happier place. :)
Stephanie from Muslim Mama commented on my post as well....I added her to my blogroll. Time to spread some more love. Please pop over and read her last 2 posts. She is in the same place I was 7 weeks ago, wondering if I had it in me to really do it this time...to really get this weight off for good. Well....we're all here to tell her that she can!! Without a doubt!! Check out her blog, say hello and offer her some encouraging words. Let her know she's not alone in this battle against Obesity...that we're all part of the same army and we will slay the beast together!!
I've got a busy day tomorrow so I'm going to turn in. I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Keep watching those calories and keep those buns moving!! :)

Happy Birthday To Me!!!
First I want to say thanks to everyone who has commented on my posts. I have read every one of them, but haven't had time to respond to everyone due to a REALLY busy and enjoyable weekend. But I have noticed....and thanks to those who aren't even followers on my blog, but have stopped by to leave their kind words. You're a fantastic bunch of people and I'm really enjoying the comraderie that is forming with us. :)
My weekend has been spectacular. You already know about the 2.5 mile hike on Friday and the 4 mile hike yesterday. We decided not to hike today and just let our bodies rest. I ran out to the salon and got a pedicure with the money Dwayne gave me for it last week....very sweet. I did a few chores around the house, just enjoying my day until Dwayne showed up to take me to Outback for dinner. I thought his gift-giving was complete but I was happily mistaken.
Last weekend, when he thought it was my birthday and was actually a week early, he gave me $100 for new clothes, $40 for the pedicure and 2 awesome books that I've really been enjoying this week. Today he gave me the sweetest card....4 beautiful candles with lovely scents....and a pair of diamond earrings in the shape of little flowers....they are gorgeous!! I explained before in a post entitled "My Guy" that Dwayne shows his love through giving you material items and cash...it looks like he loves me a lot! :)
Regarding the food this weekend....it's been bad. I admit it. I had a 3 lb loss this past Friday and will probably follow that up with a 5 lb. gain this week. I'm not being melodramatic. I got on the scale this morning and I've gained 5 lbs. since Friday and not sure if I'll be able to get it off in the next 4 short days!
Friday I had a light breakfast and a light dinner but after our 2.5 mile hike we had a heavy lunch in a restaurant. Sodium. Saturday I had a light breakfast and 2 c. of watermelon for lunch....maybe a total of 350 calories before dinner....but for dinner we had that food from the Publix deli...some of it was fried...plus MORE sodium. Today I had a light breakfast and a light lunch....maybe 500 calories before dinner. But then we went to Outback. I had 1 grilled chicken breast, 3 grilled shrimp, 1/2 of my rice pilaf, 1/2 of my grilled veggies, and HALF A LOAF of that dang bread they bring you!!! Plus EVEN MORE SODIUM!!!
I'm not worried about the gain that I so very much deserve and will probably see this Friday and here's why. My mind is still in the right place. I was conscious of every eating choice I made this weekend. It's unrealistic to think I will never eat in a restaurant again.....although most weekends I don't and won't be eating restaurant meals 3 consecutive days like I did this time! But that's just the way the weekend went, I enjoyed every single second of my stress-free weekend....the hikes way more than the food. And I've still got a tight grip on the overall picture and goal.
The weekend was full of sodium...... but it was also full of hiking, together time with my guy and my puppy dog, some lovely birthday gifts, positive thoughts and lots of laughter...and this will usurp any disappointment I earned on the scale this week. The next week will be better and will produce a loss....I just know it! I've got this thing...I'm going to beat it. I've never been filled with so much resolve in my entire life. I've never been so SURE of something before. I know I'm going to slay Obesity. I know I'm going to win. Not exactly sure how long it will take me....hopefully by next April....but if it's a little longer....it doesn't really matter....Obesity is going down!!! It's days are numbered...and that's an incredibly powerful feeling. :)

Today has been incredibly lazy. I did absolutely nothing productive today except my 20 minute walk on the treadmill. Nothing else. Not even a load of laundry, lol. Well, I did load the dishwasher but that doesn't really count since it has to be done every day.....kind of like breathing. I had originally planned to get up and go to Mom's, borrow the truck, come back, load up, haul it back and unload it into the new house. Didn't happen. I just did NOT want to go out in that heat today. I kept trying to make myself, but to no avail.
So....that left plenty of time to catch up on some people's blogs....go back to where they started and see the difference in where they are now. I enjoyed navigating through their trials and tribulations, finding out what worked for them, and gathering some good advice for my own travels.
I also went back and read the first several posts on my own blog. Wow! What a difference one month makes! Things are still hard...a lot of the days are still a struggle...but not every single day....not every single hour like when I first started. I no longer think of bolting out to a fast food restaurant every 2 hours, like I did on the first day of my post. Yes, they're still a temptation...one of my biggest issues, actually....but things are getting easier. I also noticed that although I ended up at Subway in a couple of bad situations....in the entire month I have not had one single binge. I haven't had a double bacon cheeseburger. I haven't had one single french fry. I haven't had one single chocolate milkshake. I haven't had any fast food past a couple of times at Subway, and one time at Taco Bell. And even those weren't horrendous. Are you believing this??? Yeah, me neither. Simply amazing. I haven't had another single 3-4,000 day since I started. Now that's progress, folks. That's what it looks like when you finally get your mind in the right place...when you finally say "NO MORE"....when you finally start caring about your health and your future and everything you want to do in life. THANK GOD!!
I was reading along through my posts and finally got to the one labeled "Free Day". As we all know, I eliminated this Thursday night as part of my new plan to do better. After reading the post, I remembered why I started it in the first place....all of those parties/celebrations/cookouts/birthdays/holidays/family reunions where you're undoubtedly going to be surrounded by bad food....food that you didn't prepare and you have little to no idea how many calories are in it. Special days that you cannot avoid or "get out of".
As a matter of fact, before I eliminated Free Day, I agreed to meet up with all of my girlfriends and Dwayne for "Friends Night Out"next Saturday night, July 18th. This is where we meet at either Los Reyes or Bailey's Pub and Grille and catch up on everyone's busy lives. Because of everyone's hectic schedules, we haven't had a friend's night out on the town in about 6 months. We are due. I suggested Los Reyes, thinking it would be a little easier to figure out the calories there than it would at Bailey's...a restaurant filled with greasy bar food. Even though it was going to be on Free Day, I still didn't like the thoughts of going completely crazy. I gained 4.4 lbs. last weekend from not caring. I paid for it on the scale this week.
The weekend after that is my birthday. I already knew that Dwayne was going to set something up with our friends for my birthday and it always includes a restaurant with good food and good beer. This year, I told him I want to skip the restaurant. It just wouldn't jive with my lifestyle changes, and could we set something up somewhere to grill out. That way I would have a little more control over making sure there were some healthy options there for me (i.e., grilled chicken, fresh fruit, etc.) Today I realized I've got 2 events coming up 2 weeks in a row and I got rid of Free Day. Hmmmm......now what?
Thanks to being able to take the time to catch up on all of those blogs today, I finally found the solution. After all, EVERYONE has days like this that they can't get out of. Somebody had to have figured it out by now. I found the answer on my new buddy Sean's blog: http://www.losingweighteveryday.blogspot.com/. I started reading his blog from the beginning, and found out that the first cookout he was faced with, he decided to allow himself an extra 1,000 calories that day. He has a 1500 calorie a day limit so that gave him 2500. At first, I was appalled at that amount. How am I ever going to lose weight eating 2500 calories a day, Sean?!?!
I had to really sit and think this through to see if I thought it would work for me. When Sean first started, he weighed 505 lbs. I was thinking he could probably stand to eat a lot more calories than me and still lose gobs of weight. I wasn't sure I could afford it. I surely didn't want to implement something into my plan that was going to cause me to go backwards. So....I went back to before I started losing the weight. I have already established that I was eating around 4,000 calories a day. And that was a normal, ordinary day. On a day that I would splurge, (birthdays, cookouts, and let's not even talk about the family reunion back in May), that was easily 5,000 calories...possibly more.
So, fast forward to now and my 1550 limit per day. Giving myself an extra 1,000 calories and allowing it to climb to 2500 is still WAY less than what I was eating just a month ago. Providing I don't have more than one 2500 calorie, event-filled day in one week, I started thinking this might be okay. Then I broke it down a little further. I was challenged to keep my calories strictly between 1350-1550 a day for this entire week. I've been eating at the 1550 mark for the last 2 days. If I dropped it to 1350, there's an extra 200 calories a day there that was already "ok" to eat....so technically, that extra 1,000 calories can break down to the extra 200 a day over 5 days. Suddenly, the idea of allowing myself the extra calories seemed very doable. And I like the fact that you're making yourself count the calories. If I didn't, and just left it as Free Day, I'm betting an extra 2,000 calories could slip by me without even noticing. Thanks Sean!! (Of course, if I show a gain the next weigh day after I do this...I'm hunting you down, lol).

Here's my food intake for the day:
Breakfast casserole
2 c. coffee w/ sugar-free creamer
2 homemade chicken soft tacos on wheat tortilla w/ shredded lettuce
Jambalaya Confetti Casserole ( I made up this recipe tonight and it was AMAZING!...although I did steal the word "Confetti" from Pam's Confetti Chicken recipe :))
2 oz. Boar's Head 42% lower sodium ham
7 crackers w/ 2 tbsp. of roasted red pepper hummus
1 pc. Russell Stover Sugar-free 60% cacoa dark chocolate (I'm really diggin' this stuff)
1 protein water
64 oz. regular water....NO TEA...NO COKE!!
I plan on working my butt off tomorrow moving some boxes. I haven't moved any in 3 days...time to get busy!! Due to this and knowing how worn out I'll be when I get done, I'm going to do the treadmill in the morning before I leave, and I'm also taking Pam's advice and throwing some chicken and veggies in the crockpot before I head out so I don't have to cook when I get home. See there....I do pay attention. :)
