Remember how I said that I picked Friday as the day to get back on track with the eating and get off the 15 lbs. that I put on at the beach??? Yeah....well um....scratch that, lol.
I have been consumed with nothing else except freaking out over getting a job. It's all I've been thinking about....interviewed Friday afternoon and 2 days later I'm back in the rat race!!! I'm very, very thankful and sooooo appreciative to have this opportunity...but I also had to look at the facts. I had very few clothes...like...1 pair of jeans....and 1 pair of capris. Period, lol. So Dwayne took me shopping yesterday and bought me 5 new pairs of capris to wear to work (the dress is casual....just no shorts). And he got me 2 new tops and 3 pairs of flippity-flops. I also had to go buy an alarm clock that takes batteries so I won't be screwed if the power goes out. He took me to buy some groceries so I could take a stab at eating healthy this week...if I can actually make myself concentrate on it.
All I've been thinking about is the girl who's training me for the receptionist job, Stacy, will now be working with Billie (Stacy's been there 7 years and Billie's been there 22 years). Anyhoo, Stacy is going out of town week after next, so I have ONE WEEK to learn her job. It's more than just a receptionist...setting up new files, dealing with insurance adjustors, vendors, marketing people, etc. I have to learn their phone system and everyone's name in the ofc and what they do, etc. I have to learn their filing system, blah, blah. The point being, this is ALL I've been thinking about this weekend and my LAST thought has been on food. There hasn't been any bingeing, but there has been some mindless eating here and there. I haven't even cooked since I found out I got the job on Friday. Dwayne grilled some chicken and brought over some fresh fruit and salad on Friday night. Saturday night, after we spent 4 hours shopping for clothes and shoes, Dwayne bought a rotisserie chicken, macaroni salad & watermelon from the Publix deli for dinner. Tonight I'm going next door to my Mom's for a cookout to celebrate my Dad's and my bro-in-law's birthdays....grilled steak, baked potatoes, salad, pineapple casserole, bread and fresh fruit.
I've been out of a job for so long ( a year and 3 months) that I'm scared I dont' even know how to act anymore. I've been telling myself, "If you get frustrated with something you're trying to learn, be mindful not to say the eff word out loud", lol. I also know that after you've been out of work for a while, you're exhausted for the first week or two when you go back. So dinners are liable to be sketchy for a little while. Anyway, I'm just going to navigate the best I can over the next week or two, but I'm admitting to the fact that the weight loss is not my top priority at this moment. Learning my job is. As long as I don't come home tmrw and fall face first into my pillow, then I'll try to write a quick blog and let you all know how my first day went. And weigh days haven't changed....it's still going to be on Friday....but I'll probably be doing the post that night when I get home from work instead of in the morning. I'll be getting up at 5:45am and leaving my house at 6:45am to get to work by 8am....good ol' Atlanta traffic! Plus...I live a good ways north right now. That will be changing in a few months though. My lease with my parent's rental house is up at the end of August....and Shane and Billie are moving in together elsewhere....they're getting married in October....so I'll be getting my own apartment down in Marietta (MUCH closer to work) as of Sept. 1st.
Just wanted to give everyone an update and let them know what's going on!!! Oh!! And Billie's daughter Kandice, at No More Chunky Dunking, Time To Skinny Dip (listed on my blogroll) is supposed to be doing a challenge, so I'm going to check that out and sign up! It'll be fun to do someone else's challenge this time around, plus hopefully it will help me put my focus back where it needs to be...on the weight loss! I've got a family reunion on June 19th, and I want to have those 15 lbs back off by then. If you're interested in another challenge, hop on over to her blog and check it out. :)

Thanks for the Shout Out about my challenge! It should be fun. Its a long running challenge so its not about looking a million pounds in a short amount of time. They say slow and steady wins the race so lets see if that's true. LOL. Good luck on your first day of work. Its really not hard and the phones are easy to learn. Don't worry yourself to death over it girl. I've done Staci's job before and trust me its not hard! LOL! If Staci can do it ANYBODY can do it.
ReplyDeleteYou and I are in the same boat! I'm starting a new job tomorrow, too. Pretty nervous about it. I bought some new outfits and am getting my lunch/snacks together now. I even made a chicken recipe that I'll use as another dinner tomorrow. I just have to reheat it when I get home from my WW meeting!
ReplyDeleteHi Tammy - I've been going to email you all weekend and have jsut been doing too much running around. I'm so glad for you with the job! You'll be fine...it's like riding a bike. Once you get back on, it all comes back to you. They're lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteI love your term "mindless eating". That's exactly what I was doing all last week. Obviously it was extreme mindless eating given my handy weight gain for the week, but it's starting to moderate.
I love the idea of doing a challenge. I'm going to think about it and see if I can come up with something creative, though I'm running on fumes tonight from being out in the garden working most of the day.
I'll be thinking about you all day tomorrow in your cute new capris, flips and top, hitting the Atlanta highways at the butt crack of dawn! I hope day one is fantastic.
Totally understand that you are freaking out on the job front. It sounds like the focus is off the food and the food is sounding pretty healthy. One job tip is take a little notebook or whatever you prefer and take notes. Draw maps of the place to remind yourself where stuff is. Write down things to remember, people to remember etc. I worked at a job where every 3 months I went to a new location and was expected to be up and running and fully functional within a day or two. new phone systems, new computers, new everything. It can be done. Taking notes and "studying" after work got me more comfortable. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteTammy, I definitely agree with Ms. Geek that you should take notes, notes, notes. Not only does it help YOU, but it helps management know that you're SERIOUS about the job, and that you don't think you know it well enough to keep it all in your head.
ReplyDeleteIt will be fine. YOU CAN DO IT!!
Thanks for joining the challenge. I decided to start next Monday so I have time to go grocery shopping for my healthy foods and I can plan out what to eat for my meals and what days I'm going to exercise and all that good stuff. I'm super excited though, I have Arizona and then Mom's wedding to prepare for so I need to get on the weight loss train soon. LOL. Good luck tomorrow, you will do fine just relax. LOL.
ReplyDeleteTammy, as you know I went through this very same thing one month ago. I was scared to death to get back in the office, but those feelings were very temporary. You're a smart girl and you'll probably learn everything so fast they'll be shocked. I hope your first day goes great!
ReplyDeleteHey hey! I am sorry I totally forgot to email you for the prize. Thank you in advance and congratulations on the new job. I am sending that email now.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to Arizona to visit my best friend. I try to go every year but last yr I wasn't able to go when I want to because of work. So I'm going this year.
ReplyDeleteHave a super first day; I'm anxious to hear about your whole week. Fun to have those new things to wear for work.
ReplyDeleteI imagine you are getting your food all set for tomorrow, etc. Tip - lay out what you can on the counter for the am, and prepare what (healthy!) foods you can the night before. And be SURE to take enough, or too much healthy foods, so you don't get too depleted. Keep the drive home in mind too; bring something to munch for that too.
What will your 'baby girl' think of you being gone? Can she be trusted with the run of the house? Maybe your parents could let her out?
I'll be thinking about you! Chrissy
You'll make it my friend!!! Look how far you've come already?
ReplyDeletegood luck with your job. YOu will even out.
ReplyDeleteHey, Tammy. Congrats on getting the job. You probably will be tired trying to adjust to working, etc. Hope it doesn't set you back too much with the weight loss. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on the new job!
ReplyDeleteI have been working for the company Mindless Products, LLC for a little over a year. I have gone from a size 18 women's to a size 14 by stopping my Mindless Eating.
Check out the reach by Dr. Brian Wansink. He wrote the book "Mindless Eating, Why We Eat More Than We Think".
You will do just fine at your new job. It will surprise you how quickly you'll get back into it. Hope today goes well for you. Very happy for you, Tammy. Hugs, Kathleen
ReplyDeleteGreat update...I'm loving Dwayne more with each post!!!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck Tammy! You will do just fine.
ReplyDeleteI was curious about Scarlette too!
Hi Tammy. Hope you had a great first day.
ReplyDeleteThis job's come at just the right time when you'll be able to get your own place. Really exciting!
Hope there hasn't been too much "effing" today lol.
