Picking Myself Up

Well, the garage sale was a total bust.  We had 4 customers in 4 hours...totally sucked.  So Dwayne suggested I take out a couple of ads in the local paper to advertise one for next weekend.  He seems to think this will make a world of difference, so we'll see what happens.  Hopefully we'll have a lot more traffic.

I haven't been grocery shopping in 3 weeks....just been eating stuff out of the freezer and pantry because I haven't had any money in the budget for groceries.  Today I scraped up $30 and Dwayne gave me another $35, so I hit Publix with $65 in hand...woo hoo!  I took a pic of everything I got.  Oh how I missed fresh produce and dairy!  As T.J. would say, here's a picture of my loot!

Ok....here's what I got:

split chicken breasts
bell pepper
romaine lettuce
baby spinach
chicken sausages
whole wheat hot dog buns
Greek yogurt
cottage cheese

My sister Amy came over tonight and had dinner with me.  She sauteed some shrimp in I Can't Believe It's Not Butter w/ a touch of salt and some pepper, garlic & parsley.  We each had a little saucer of it with a salad on the side w/ romaine, spinach, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, a sprinkle of garlic & herb feta cheese & a splash of Greek dressing.  Dinner was light and delicious!

I'm making an effort to get back on the right track with the eating, one step at a time.  Dinner was good tonight and I baked some chicken and broccoli in the oven for lunch and dinner tomorrow.  Breakfast will be yogurt with fresh blackberries....snacks will be carrots and and a salad I made up tonight so it'll be ready to go in the morning.  I've had lots of water this wknd and hope to continue that through the week.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend...I'm signing off so I can get a few more chores done and then get to bed at a decent time.  5:30am comes way too early!  'Nite friends.  :)

  1. Bummer about the garage sale! Your grocery shopping looks super yummy!!!!

  2. Tammy, when we (the neighbors and I) have a garage/yard sale we do advertise in the local papers. We quiz our customers about how they found out about us, and most of them say the paper. We also put up flyers around at the grocery store and any other businesses around here who will permit it.

Your groceries look like mine - lots of produce and fruit and no boxed food! I have gotten so obsessed with healthy shopping that I look in everyone's grocery carts to see what they eat! You can tell a lot about a person by their groceries!!

    Keep up the positive attitude!

  3. You have the makings for some good healthy meals. Good for you to cook and prep stuff today for the week. I really have to do that in order to stay on track and not have chaotic mornings! Hope you have a good week.

  4. Ok...alright...you are back in charge!

Since I think the world is getting lazy, I might also suggest putting ads into Craigslist not only for your garage sale overall, but for any of the key/high dollar items as individual ads.

  5. I am sorry to hear that you didn't have more customers, I hopethatnext week is better. I am happy to see that you are gettiing back on track. Yeah~

  6. Go Tammy! Awesome grocery picks. I could not live without fresh fruits and veggies.

Sorry to hear about your g-sale. There are a ton of g-sales in my neighbor and some people get down right dirty by taking down signs of others having sales in the area. This has always been a problem so advertising would help.

    Good luck!

  7. You can also list your garage sale for free on Craigslist. :)

  8. I;m sorry about your garage sale. May the ads next week bring them flooding in and buying everything all up.

You did great at the store on $65.00. Enjoy your fresh, healthy yummies.

  9. Too bad about the garage sale, hopefully next weekend will be better! Glad to see you getting back on track with the eating! Seeing your loot, made me remember I gotta try those chicken sausages! Have a great week!

  10. Around here, a garage sale ad in the newspaper gets you on a map, which is really cool. Seems to be totally worth the money. Hope next week goes much better!

  11. I'm sorry the garage sale didn't work well today. The ads should help with getting some traffic in.

Oh, how I miss Publix; such wonderful selections and yummies just waiting for me to shop. Your haul looks delicious and I bet will taste even better.

Hang in there! We're all with ya in spirit. :)

  12. Glad to see your loot! Looks like good eating for awhile. Best of luck to you next weekend!

  13. if you have craigslist for your area, advertise there. I was amazed at how many people came to my (free) craigslist advertised garage sale. You might also have other groups in your area (we have ABQ traders group) that you can use to advertise directly online to locals looking for a deal!

  14. Love you grocery shopping, you did a similar shop to me, loads of fresh salad and veggies. We are both heading down the right track again:)

    Better luck next weekend.

  15. Good grief! That's a lot of food for 65 bucks. I went to a local health food place this weekend (Good Foods in Richmond VA) and spent 98 dollars, and didn't get anything that looked that good.

  16. You did a great job with your $65 bucks! You got some fabulous loot. Better luck next time with your garage sale. And I hope the ads bring more customers. Did any of your 4 customers make any purchases?

  17. Sorry about the garage sale!

You've motivated me to go grocery shopping!
